Who invented the zipper?
How was the zipper even invented? They must’ve needed a magnifying glass just to see what they were doing over there, right? How else would you see the intricate mechanism of the zip unless you were to use a device that allows you to zoom in on it?
Did they make a tremendous zipper at first, where each zip was 6-inches long, but then realize, “oh, man. This is way too big for clothes. We gotta shrink this down to about 1/500th of this size in order for it to be practical…”?
I bet they did.
I’d love to see the trial and error done to produce the first zipper.
What do zip-lines have to do with zippers? There’s no connection between the two, yet their names can’t help but call upon some sort of correlation. Zip-lines don’t connect or disconnect two sides of something like a zipper does. I’m guessing the common zipper came prior to the zip-line, so we know which one is stealing its name from the other.
But why?
Why not just call it a “slide-line?” A slide-line would be a very accurate name for the procedure of the zip-line. You slide down it; do you not? You don’t “zip” down it.
I’m going to start calling zip-lining “slide-lining” to see if it catches on.
