I don’t get the whole “tuck in your chair after you stand up” rule.
Of course, I abide by the rule (probably better than most), but I still don’t totally get it. I mean, why tuck in the chair? The next person who sits there is just going to have to pull it right back out. This is simply additional unnecessary labor both on the part of the sitter and on the part of the intended next sitter.
If I were to leave the chair untucked, the next sitter would be able to pop a squat without having to pull the chair back out from under the table, like some sort of stooge.
Do we do this in order to make more room for people walking by? If so, how about THEY tuck the chair in if they need to walk by so badly? That way, the chairs are only tucked in when they NEED to be tucked in. You don’t tie your shoelaces if you aren’t wearing shoes—same idea applies here.
When someone wants to walk through a couch and realizes that they can’t do that, who do you blame? The shmuck trying to walk through the couch, or the innocent person who most recently happened to be sitting there?
I don’t know about you all, but the answer is pretty clear to me.
