Why do people wait for the light to walk across the intersection?
I started just going for it.
Of course, I wait until there aren’t any cars coming; I’m not going to play frogger across Flatbush Avenue during rush hour (my middle-school days are behind me).
That being said, when there aren’t any cars coming, I’m booking it across the street, and you can’t stop me.
Now, excusing those with disabilities that inhibit walking at normal pace, I don’t understand why everybody doesn’t do this.
You go to Germany (and I’ve never been myself, but I’ve been told), you see all these Germans standing around waiting for the light to change even when NO CARS ARE COMING.
How can you guys be so efficient if you don’t walk when it’s safe to walk? Who cares if the light says not to walk? The light is stupid.
I don’t listen to machines; I listen to my eyes telling me that it’s safe to cross the intersection.
What if an 18-wheeler truck is barreling down the road when the light is telling you to walk—are you going to listen to the light then? Because I’m going to listen to the 40-ton freight truck racing towards the light at 60 mph while you’re getting flattened.
Go ahead—play by “their” rules.
I make my own rules, and I’m going to get my morning coffee about 30 seconds faster than you because of that simple fact.
Until next time,
