Today, I tried filling up my mug at the communal coffee pot, but I got distracted by someone telling me a story. This resulted in accidentally dispensing steaming hot coffee from the machine directly onto my hand for probably 2 full seconds.

Here’s the shocking part: it didn’t hurt.

No.

It felt like warm water gliding down my fist, but nothing I couldn’t handle. And it was STEAMING HOT—literally.

What does this mean? Truly, it’s beyond me.

Perhaps, my hands have grown so callused and rough from tapping away at my laptop’s keyboard for 16 hours a day that they no longer have feeling.

Perhaps, my having been distracted mentally helped distract me physically, though I never thought this to be possible.

Or, perhaps, my soul no longer feels emotions, which manifests itself in the loss of my ability to perceive physical sensations, too.

I really don’t have an answer this time. I still don’t know why this didn’t hurt me.

Boiling coffee directly on my skin for 2 full seconds—barely felt a thing.

Maybe I’m superman.

Until next time,
