I just discovered something fascinating about my body.
After a certain number of hours without sleep, caffeine has absolutely no effect on my heart rate whatsoever.
I found this out inadvertently when I went 2 full days/nights without sleep this past week for no reason other than “I didn’t have time lmao.”
I still needed to stay awake after I hit that fateful 50-hour mark, so I was downing one caffeinated drink after another (and after several more) with the hopes of keeping my eyelids open for just a few more crucial hours.
What I learned was this—even after 4 coffees, a double shot of espresso, and 2 monster energy drinks, all in less than an hour, I couldn’t keep my eyes open.
I know that drinking all this caffeine in such a short amount of time could not have been good for me, but let’s be honest—considering I’d already been up for 50 hours without sleep at this point, I clearly wasn’t concerned with my health or well-being. I was in too deep. Caution to the wind, I needed to stay awake at all costs.
Now, I always thought that caffeine would stimulate my mental faculties and keep me awake, regardless of my extreme lack of sleep. This did literally nothing for me, though.
I’m not sure how any of this newly learned information will ever be applicable in my life, realistically, but at least I know it, I guess.
Until next time,
