My new thing is Russian literature.
I’ve been banging out Russian books lately like they’re going out of style (and they did—decades ago).
They’re so good, though. The characters are all very deep, and their names are tremendous.
“Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov.”
“Sergius Ivanovich Koznyshev.”
“Peter Benjamin Parker.”
Why do all these Russian authors make it so clear that their characters must have middle names?
It’s not like “Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov” is going be mistaken for some “Rodion Joseph Raskolnikov” is he doesn’t throw the old “Romanovich” smack dab in the middle.
It’s not like there’s a bunch of “Rodion Gordon Raskolnikovs” cross-country skiing (or however Russians travel) around St. Petersburg that Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov could be confused with if he were to leave out the “Romanovich.”
I don’t know.
Just an observation.
