I went to Little Ukraine in Manhattan tonight, which is located in the East Village. It’s not large—maybe a single square-block.

I must say—I was pleasantly surprised.

My perception of actual Ukraine prior to the time I spent in Little Ukraine was drastically different.

I expected to see way more Soviets armed to the teeth right in the middle of the street, tanks all over the place, buildings burning, etc.

Turns out, Little Ukraine is just a bunch of hipsters eating Varenyky (Ukrainian pierogis) and borscht.

Again, I didn’t see a single tank in Little Ukraine. There wasn’t ONE tank.

Little Ukraine isn’t a single-square-block region stricken with violence, but rather, stricken with hipsters and their take-out boxes full of Chicken Kiev.

If real Ukraine is ANYTHING like Little Ukraine, we should all move there immediately.

Overall, 10/10—would recommend.

Until next time,
