Elementary schools need to start teaching more practical information to students.
Mathematics—I get it.
English—I get it.
Foreign language—I get it.
History—not so much.
Science—not so much.
Is there anything else? It doesn’t really matter I guess, because I have one primary topic that I want to call upon.
If you ask any 10-year old what “silt” is, you’ll get an answer immediately.
Now, ask that same 10-year old what a 401k plan is.
If you get an answer, I’ll be SHOCKED.
Look, knowing the basics of history is important in Elementary school— I’ll give you that. Teach the origin of the world, the origin of humanity, the roots of our country, etc., but don’t get into details like how ancient Egyptians cooked bread or how people went to the bathroom “before bathrooms.”
Teach 10-year olds how to improve their credit score, not how to make volcanoes out of baking soda and vinegar.
Until next time,
