The other day, I decided to find a way to increase my efficiency (as if I’m not efficient enough as it is).

Demetri Martin, in his standup special, If I, discusses how he used to make a weekly list with various tasks that he had to complete. He averaged 30% efficiency over the course of 11 months.

I made a similar list last week, which I began tallying yesterday (Monday) at 12:01 AM.

On my list, there are 26 possible points to accrue.

For example, I get one point if I do 100 sit-ups every single day that week.

I get one point if I come up with 5 anagrams over the course of the week.

I get one point if I read 2 books over the course of the week.

Etc.

I decided that, if I max out at 26/26 points for 5 separate weeks, I will treat myself to something.

Something really nice.

When I max out for 5 separate weeks, which will be an incredible feat of mental and physical endurance, I will buy myself colorblind-glasses.

These spectacles will allow me to distinguish between colors that, with my inherited genetic phenotype, currently blend together.

In a sense, I will be rewarding myself with the gift of sight, but only after I prove to myself that I am incrementally growing into a better, stronger individual.

If I fail to max out on any given week, I’ll have no choice but to self-punish in a way that I deem appropriate, but I don’t see how that’s any of your business.

Until next time,
