You know what’s weird? I have a really difficult time making simple decisions, but a ridiculously easy time making difficult, life-altering decisions.
Mike, what kind of ice-cream do you want—chocolate or vanilla? AHHH! I have no idea!
Mike, (INSERT BLOOD RELATIVE) needs immediate open-heart surgery if (s)he is going to survive, but (s)he is already (INSERT NUMBER) years old, and there’s a (INSERT NUMBER) % chance of long-term survival if the surgery is successful. Boom! I could answer this one even before the question is finished being asked.
It’s weird.
Decisions that could potentially have deadly consequences are the ones that I’m able to make the easiest—my brain becomes a human calculator instantly determining all pros and cons and regurgitating an immediate response with no hesitation.
When it comes to small stuff, like what flavor Coffee-Mate I want, or if I even want Coffee-Mate at all, I’m at a loss for words.
Emotion takes over logic and puts me at a disadvantage.
I’m going to start carrying a quarter to flip for just such basic dilemmas. My decision-making abilities should not be stressed by such stupidity. I’m worth more than that, damn it!
Until next time,
