Another piece of knowledge that so many people unnecessarily concern themselves with that brings nothing of value to the table—ancestral roots.
WHY do you need to know where your ancestors are from? Curiosity shouldn’t be your reason, because that’s straight-up stupid. There’s no reason to be curious about any more of your lineage than maybe the 2 generations preceding you. This way, you know if you should be keeping an eye out for any health problems you’re (unfortunately) likely to encounter, such as heart issues or kidney stones (ouchies).
Aside from that, you don’t NEED to know that, 800 years ago, your ancestors were in France. This is utterly pointless knowledge. Save your brain for information that can actually help you.
You should know how to change a car’s tire and properly perform CPR on a human baby before you should be allowed to learn where your ancestors hung around. Knowing both of these procedures is invaluable, unlike knowing that your great-great-great-(times 10)-grandfather was from Belgium.
Do better.
